Subscriber B.A. called last night
and interrupted the NCAA basketball tournament on
TV.
B.A. is an old college buddy, and
president of a community bank. “How did we get to this point?” he asked
me.
B.A. had obviously just finished
his taxes and was incredulous at the taxes he owed, fishing for
answers in a murky pond.
B.A. told me last weekend was the
worst.
K.U. lost in the basketball
tournament on Saturday night, and congress passed the Senate
health care bill on Sunday night. He had to drink adult beverages to stomach
both and found it hard to make it to work on
Monday.
By midweek he confirmed he would
be sending a check to the IRS instead of buying a new mid-level
luxury car.
My brother-in-law called this
morning to talk about the KSU basketball game last
night.
We got around to politics, he is
angry at the County Commissioners and
Sheriff.
A new county statute gives 911
dispatchers the power to approve any open burning by farmers or
ranchers.
If the dispatcher doesn’t give
you approval to burn a pasture, pile of trees or ditch, the
Sheriff can site you with a misdemeanor and levy a
fine.
Freedom slips away, we complain,
and go on with our lives. I
ordered some more copies of Atlas Shrugged to give
away.
One is reserved for our family
doctor.
I don’t know where we will go
when he quits. He told me a month ago he and most doctors he
knew would retire if OBAMA Care
passed.
I called his office
yesterday, he was out. What a shame. He was recognized a few years ago as
“General Practioner of the Year” in our
state.
He is one of the best, his
son is studying to be a surgeon. A family’s dreams destroyed by
political hacks.
Subscriber D.E. sent an
interesting article in an email. You can access the full article and other
good information at American
Thinker.
The article is written by Jim
Simpson, a former White House staff economist and budget
analyst.
I would like to quote a few of
his points.
“It is time to cast aside all
remaining doubt. President Obama is not trying to lead America
forward to recovery, prosperity and strength. Quite the
opposite, in fact.”
The author explains the Strategy
of Manufactured Crisis, originally identified by David
Horowitz. He
explains, “The
Cloward-Piven Strategy seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism
by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of
impossible demands...pushing society into a crisis and economic
collapse.”
“Richard Cloward and Frances Fox
Piven were two lifelong members of Democratic Socialists of
America and taught sociology at Columbia University (Piven
later went on to City University of New York). In a May, 1966
Nation magazine article titled "The Weight of the Poor," they
outlined their strategy, proposing to use grassroots radical
organizations to push ever more strident demands for public
services at all levels of
government.”
“The result, they predicted,
would be “a profound financial and political crisis” that would
unleash "powerful forces ... for major economic reform at the
national level." They implemented the Strategy by creating a
succession of radical organizations but most notably the
Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN),
with the help of veteran organizer Wade Rathke. Their crowning
achievement was the "Motor Voter" act, signed into law by Bill
Clinton in 1993 with Cloward and Piven standing behind
him.”
I was a County Commissioner when
“Motor Voter” was passed into law. What a mess. Prior to “Motor Voter” citizens had to come
into the courthouse with a utility bill or some documents to
prove residency and a birth certificate to prove
citizenship.
All that went out the window, if
they said they were a citizen and resident, they got to
vote.
It was a bold attempt to stuff
ballot boxes with votes that were not legal or
trackable.
“ACORN was one of the chief
drivers of high-risk mortgage lending that eventually led to
the financial crisis. But the Motor Voter law was another
component of the strategy. It created vast vulnerabilities in
our electoral system which ACORN then
exploited.”
“The Motor Voter law has also
been used to open another vulnerability in the system: the
registration of vast numbers of illegal aliens, who then vote
reliably Democrat. Herein lies the real reason Democrats are so
anxious for open borders, security be
damned.”
“It should be clear to anyone
with a mind and two eyes that this president and this Congress
do not have our interests at heart. They are implementing this strategy on an
unprecedented scale by flooding America with a Tidal Wave of
poisonous initiatives, orders, regulations and
laws.
As Rahm Emmanuel said, “A crisis
is a terrible thing to
waste.”
“The real goal of "healthcare"
legislation, the real goal of "cap and trade," the real goal of
"stimulus" is to rip the guts out of our private economy and
transfer wide swaths of it over to government control. Do not
be deluded by the propaganda. These initiatives are vehicles
for change. They are not goals in and of themselves, except in
their ability to deliver power, and will make matters much
worse, for that is their
design.”
“Their ultimate goal is to leave
us so discouraged, demoralized and exhausted that we throw our
hands up in defeat. As Barney Frank said "the middle class will
be too distracted to
fight."
"These people are our enemies. They don't use
guns, yet, but they are just as dangerous, determined and
duplicitous as the communists we faced in the Cold War, Korea,
Vietnam and bush wars across the globe, and the Nazis we faced
in World War II. It is
time we fully internalized
a
nd digested this fact, with all
its ugly
ramifications.”
I encourage you to read the full
article, but I have used most of it as it was to good to
heavily edit.
I thought a little light reading
before the weekend would give us all a little bounce in our
step.
IT IS GREAT TO BE AN
AMERICAN.
Oh, sorry that was under Ronald
Reagan.
The problems start small with
county statutes, school district budgets and political
correctness.
Stupid people have been put in
charge of great responsibility, and screwed it
up.
Very smart and deceitful people
have been given a great trust, and are betraying
it.
What are our
responsibilities? I
don’t know, but feel confident we must do more than just pay
for it all.
If you haven’t watched the
Milton Friedman video on our home page
lately, have a visit with an old friend this
weekend.
This eight minute video will
give you a boost. Remember Plato’s warning to us, “The
penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is
to be ruled by evil
men.”
