Climate War, Private War

The World’s number one world improver is at it
again. Yesterday at
Oxford, Al Gore accused governments of “exploiting ignorance
about the dangers of climate warming.” He went on to compare the
“threat from climate change was as urgent as that from
Hitler.” Wow, how do
you engage a raving lunatic? Sorry Al, you cannot refer to
climate warming anymore, reports are the climate has cooled the
last two years.
Stick with “climate change.”
Gore evoked Winston Churchill’s memorable rallying of the
British public to resist and fight the Nazis. He should remember that Britain
voted Churchill out of office within two months of the Victory
in Europe. Winston
was trotted out as a War Hero until his
death. Can we
declare victory (since the climate is cooling), retire
Gore to a quite mountain home, and trot him out once
every few years as a “climate hero?”
The London
Times has the story on Al Gore lecturing the
unclean at Oxford on climate change. They even have video if you
can stay awake.
More comes out on the decision by Walmart to endorse the
administration’s plan for employer mandates for health
insurance. Media
reports indicate that Wal-Mart made this decision so they would
“have a seat at the table.” Wal-Mart believes they will be
able to influence the final version of any legislation to suit
their interests.
They will be used or abused, nothing more or
less.
Sitting down to eat with a vicious animal (government
bureaucrat) is not my idea of a congenial dinner
party. Both parties
are at the table, but with different agendas! Ayn Rand saw this perfectly in
Atlas Shrugged, I encourage you to read it if you have
not.

Come sit down and negotiate,
then we will eat.
I submitted to publish, “Walmart, Did they drop the Soap” to a
popular stock market web site, they changed the title to,
“Walmart Finally Succumbs to Government Pressure on Employer
Mandated Health Coverage.” I laugh every time I read
it. I like my title
better.
Walmart will have their John Galt moment, when they look in the
mirror and realize they have sown the seeds of their own
destruction. I am
always amazed at the Chamber of Commerce or other “business
groups” that bite at the tiny morsels given to them while the
feast is taken away in large chunks.
I talked to subscriber Greg L. in Atlanta; he told me the
administration is pressuring Bank of America to unionize their
staff. Wal-Mart will
enjoy their “seat at the table.”
The American
Hospital Association succumbed to pressure from
the administration today. The AHA does not
represent all hospitals. Many hospitals are very
upset. The AHA
agreed to $155 billion of cuts in future government payments, in
exchange for no cuts in future Medicare and Medicaid
payments. These
payments are already 30% below insurance company
reimbursements.
The government is cost shifting almost one third of the cost
of these two programs to private health
payers.
House Republican Leader John Boehner accused, “The
administration and congressional Democrats are literally
bullying health care groups and cutting back room deals to fund
a government takeover of health care.” Standard Operating
Procedure.
George K. sends in a comment on yesterday’s article on the
mortgage crisis.
“Barney Frank is taking Ted Kennedy’s place as the socialist
Democrat..We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,
fame.”
